Akiko is fortunate to work and study in a field that reinforces her love for -- and skills in -- both modern science and ancient therapies. Originally from Chiba, Japan, Akiko earned top honors in math, physics, and chemistry in a high school pre-med program. After moving to the U.S. at 19, she earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Washington State University. Although she enjoyed a rewarding career as a Software Engineer at Microsoft, Akiko felt a strong need to return to her earlier passion for medicine. So, after seven years with Microsoft, she left to earn a Master of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University. She is now board-certified by the NCCAOM and is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and Master-level Reiki practitioner. Akiko completed her internship at Harborview Medical Center (Chronic Fatigue Clinic, International Clinic, and Madison HIV Clinic) and trained at Evergreen Treatment Services for acupuncture detoxification. As a talented musician, Akiko has played violin since age four and performed with the Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra for over seven years. This musical connection and Reiki practice reinforces her sensitivities to energy flow. She's been interested in energy works, and  continues to examine aspects of other vibrational therapies and how they may relate to a wide range of health issues.
